A glance is all it takes for travelers to board flights at the Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3), thanks to the airport’s optimized self-service boarding system. This technological upgrade eliminates the need for travelers to use ID cards or boarding passes, resulting in a 30% boost in efficiency, according to the airport.

Since being introduced a month ago, the facial recognition feature at T3 has efficiently processed over 500,000 passengers with a success rate of over 98%. This technology has also slashed average boarding time by more than 30% per flight and significantly reduced the likelihood of passengers mistakenly boarding the wrong flight.

Next, the airport will enhance facial recognition boarding systems in the satellite hall, situated north of T3 and designed to handle 22 million passengers a year, further streamlining the passenger experience.

In another development, the airport has initiated a trial run of its innovative cross-border e-commerce management system for special commodities. This system automates the cargo inspection report verification process, boosting efficiency by approximately 98%. It can now process 100 cargo inspection reports within a minute. Additionally, freight forwarders no longer have to submit cargo-related inspection reports, which could save them up to 500,000 yuan (US$70,000) per year.
