On Sept. 20, the Authority of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone signed a strategic cooperation agreement with BEAM Society Limited, a non-profit membership organization based in Hong Kong.

This collaboration will involve the comprehensive implementation of pilot projects for green building environmental assessments in Qianhai, the provision of training for both green building specialists and generalists, the expansion of data services for the iBEAM green building environmental assessment digital platform, and joint efforts in areas such as green finance.

The cooperation aims to enhance mutual recognition and communication of green building assessment standards between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, foster talent development and exchange, jointly promote the high-quality growth of green finance, and provide reference models for green development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond.

A key aspect of this partnership is the pilot green building environmental assessment and certification for five landmark construction projects in Qianhai, which include the E-Hub Phase II, Tencent’s new headquarters, and the WeBank Building. Additionally, BEAM Society Limited will offer professional training services for team members involved in these projects.

To date, Qianhai has established green building star rating requirements in the land use planning of 127 projects, covering a total construction area of approximately 15.18 million square meters. Notably, 90% of these projects are recognized as green buildings with high star ratings.

Hong Kong has been at the forefront of green building assessment, having launched its building environment assessment standard system as early as 1996 and achieving carbon peak in 2014. This experience has provided valuable insights for both the mainland and global practices in green building systems and architectural design models.
