A group of avid cyclists assembled at the Gushu Wharf in Bao'an District's Xiwan Mangrove Park on Saturday for a 50-kilometer ride along Shenzhen's western coastal cycling path.
This event marked the official completion of the path, which connects Xiwan Mangrove Park with the Shenzhen River Greenway in Futian District. The new path is a key addition to Shenzhen's growing cycling infrastructure, according to Chinese-language reports.
The path traverses several prominent tourism destinations, including the Qianhai Bay area, Shenzhen Bay Park, the Guangdong Neilingding-Futian National Nature Reserve, and the Shenzhen River Greenway. Lush mangroves, sweeping coastal vistas, and opportunities for birdwatching line the path, which is set against the backdrop of Shenzhen's dynamic skyline.
It is part of the city's ambitious 200-kilometer east-west coastal cycling route, which is currently under construction.
Designed to integrate mountains, the sea, urban centers, and tourist hotspots, the route stretches from the Maozhou River Estuary in the west to Luzui in Dapeng New Area in the east, with branches extending to Nan'ao, Baguang, and Dachan Bay. Divided into 11 distinct sections, it showcases Shenzhen's vibrant coastal landscape.
With expansive green spaces, breathtaking coastlines, and carefully designed infrastructure, Shenzhen has become a haven for both cycling enthusiasts and casual riders.
By developing "One Ridge, One Belt, and 20 Corridors," Shenzhen is crafting an extensive outdoor recreational network that integrates the city's urban fabric with its natural landscapes.
By the end of last year, the city had established a network of 3,406 kilometers of greenways, further solidifying its reputation as a cycling paradise.
