The 2024 China Marine Economy Expo and Shenzhen International Ocean Week are set to kick off with a series of high-profile events, including the Global Ocean City Forum and a highly anticipated exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of China's polar expedition. Over 400 domestic and international key players in the marine sector are expected to participate.
These details were announced Thursday during a press conference held by the Information Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government.
The expo will take place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District (main venue) and the Shenzhen Airport Yacht Marina (subvenue), coinciding with the ocean week.
Cheng Zhangmin, deputy director of the Shenzhen Municipal Ocean Development Bureau, highlighted that this year's event will blend ocean achievements with business and trade activities, providing a platform for technology exchange and trade negotiations.
"Key areas like deep-sea mining, marine energy, and intelligent sensing will take center stage, attracting top industry enterprises to strengthen marine trade cooperation. Additionally, forums focused on zero-carbon transitions, polar deep-sea exploration, and digital twin technology will tap into high-level think tank expertise to offer cutting-edge insights," Cheng said during the briefing.
Spanning approximately 95,000 square meters, the show will showcase a wide array of cutting-edge marine technologies, including deep-sea giants, high-end marine equipment such as unmanned vessels and seaplanes, and the debut of an ocean boarding bridge.
The expo will also feature the Global Ocean City Forum and the World Laureates Forum on Ocean Science, alongside several specialized forums. Over 150 distinguished guests from around the world are expected to attend. Discussions will cover deep-sea technology, marine shipping, ocean ecology, and global maritime governance.
Regarding Ocean Week activities, Li Wenwei, vice president and secretary-general of the Shenzhen Association for Promoting the Construction of a Global Ocean City, announced that over 100 public events are planned. She highlighted a seafood festival and a three-day event in collaboration with the China Cup Regatta at the Dapeng Yacht Club. "Attendees will be able to enjoy seafood delicacies, watch maritime races, and experience live music performances during the festival," Li added.
