Roughly 620 companies advertised more than 34,000 jobs during a job fair for recent college graduates, which was held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District on Saturday. The fair attracted nearly 45,000 jobseekers both in-person and online, making it the city's largest job fair this year.

Organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, the job fair featured a diverse array of enterprises, including 61 listed companies, 83 State-owned entities, 275 specialized and new firms, and 369 high-tech enterprises. Industry giants such as Tencent, Ping An Bank, BYD, SF Express, and TCL were also present.

Zhang Zhirong, director of Shenzhen's public employment service center, said that the fair aimed to address the burgeoning demand for skilled professionals in key sectors like next-generation electronic information, the marine economy, new materials, green technologies, and biomedical health care. Many employers offered competitive salaries, with some positions reaching 35,000 yuan (US$4,953) per month.

Shenzhen TBIT IoT Technology CO. Ltd. sought engineers to bolster its Internet of Things (IoT) services for bike-sharing platforms. With the aim of expanding its reach nationwide by recruiting tech-savvy professionals capable of providing top-notch online services, the company offered starting salaries ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 yuan.

The fair was a magnet for talented individuals. Among them were Zhong, a doctoral student specializing in marine robotics, and Li, a biomedical science major. Zhong expressed a willingness to jump into the workforce early if the right opportunity arose.

For Li, securing a stable position at a reputable company and a minimum salary of 20,000 yuan per month were key criteria for accepting a job. The cutthroat competition underscored the importance of factors like job stability and salary in attracting top talent and Shenzhen's reputation as a magnet for innovation-driven professionals.

More than 77% of the jobseekers have a bachelor's degree or above, with 15% holding master's or doctoral degrees.
