Representatives from Pingshan District and Entrust Microgrid Ltd. sign a cooperation agreement.
The Shenzhen (Pingshan)-U.K. (London) Investment Cooperation Exchange Event was held Feb. 22 at the Institute of Directors in London, drawing about 100 representatives from U.K. companies, universities, and research institutes to seek cooperation and investment opportunities in Pingshan District.
Organizations in attendance included GSK, Biogen, Horiba Mira, Entrust Microgrid, Tycho MedLink, Emblem, Allgreen Energy, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University of Warwick, University of London, University of Southampton, Cardiff University, Alan Turing Institute, and Francis Crick Institute.
In a speech delivered by Ding Mingqin, minister counselor for science and technology affairs of China's embassy in the U.K., he highlighted the fruitful collaborations between China and the U.K. over the past 40 years in fields such as engineering manufacturing, AI, biomedicine, and new energy, which have benefited people in both countries. Ding also emphasized that as a frontrunner in China's economic reform and opening up, Shenzhen is a dynamic and innovative city ripe with opportunities and prospects.
John McLean OBE, Chair of the China U.K. Business Development Center and Chairman of Institute of Directors City of London, noted that as a core city in China's scientific and technological innovation development, Shenzhen is renowned for its expertise in intelligent equipment, automobile, semiconductor and future industries, attracting global investors. In the context of U.K.-China bilateral trade, both Shenzhen and London will play a significant role.
Yang Jun, secretary of the CPC Pingshan District Committee, introduced at the event that Pingshan is an ideal location for living, working, and entrepreneurship, thanks to its thriving economic development, dynamic investment environment, people-focused public services, and rich cultural and historical background.
He further emphasized that the district's three leading industries: new energy vehicles, biomedicine, and chip manufacturing, as well as emerging industries like low-altitude economy, and cell and gene technology, have seen rapid growth. This has facilitated the quick expansion of renowned companies including BYD and Sanofi. Meanwhile, Pingshan's strong investment in R&D, along with the increasing number of PCT patent applications, has led to the establishment of national-level innovation platforms and attracted talents from around the world to settle in the district.
During the event, Pingshan signed a memorandum of understanding with Horiba Mira, a global provider of automotive engineering, research, and test services. Both parties will collaborate in industries, projects, commercialization, and talent development.
Pingshan also signed a cooperation agreement with Entrust Microgrid Ltd., which specializes in smart microgrid systems with renewable energy and energy storage and other smart energy appliances and devices. Both sides plan to collaborate on the commercialization of solar photovoltaic, energy storage, and smart microgrid. Additionally, Entrust Microgrid will set up its China headquarters in Pingshan. Shenzhen Commonpraise Solar Ltd., located in Pingshan, will work with Entrust Microgrid to build solar photovoltaic and smart microgrid systems in the U.K. and Nigeria.
Furthermore, the Shenzhen China-Europe Innovation Center singed strategic cooperation agreements with Cambridge Hacklab and SparkX to establish innovation and entrepreneurship platforms and provide science and technology services.
