Autumn officially began in Shenzhen on Tuesday, marked by five consecutive days below 22° Celsius, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory announced Wednesday.

Cloudy skies with limited sunshine are expected until Sunday, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 24 degrees Celsius. Starting Nov. 26, a new cold wave will arrive and cause temperatures to drop further.

This year, Shenzhen recorded its longest summer at 242 days and saw autumn arrive 11 days later than the average start date of Nov. 8 (1991 to 2020).

Recent years have shown similar delays, with 2020 marking the latest start on Nov. 27.

Historical meteorological data show that in the two weeks after autumn begins, Shenzhen's temperatures range from 28.6 to 15.2 degrees Celsius, with over a 70% chance of rain and an average of 19.2 millimeters.
