Shenzhen railway is expected to handle over 2.6 million passenger trips, with an average of 520,000 passenger trips per day, during the five-day Qingming Festival transport period from April 3 to 7.
Among these, Shenzhen North Railway Station is expected to handle over 1.88 million passenger trips. The travel peak is expected to arrive on April 4, with Shenzhen railway operating 1,080 passenger trains and transporting 325,000 passengers.
This year's Qingming holiday connects with the Hong Kong public holiday and Sanyuesan, a traditional festival that falls on the third day of the third lunar month in the lunar calendar for the Han Chinese and multiple other ethnic groups to commemorate the Huangdi Emperor, a legendary ruler and ancestor of the Chinese nation.
"It is expected that the flow of passengers will start to surge this weekend and last for nearly 10 days," Tan Hui, deputy chief of the Passenger Transport Department at Shenzhen Station, said.
To satisfy the needs of holidaymakers and Qingming Festival tomb sweepers, the railway operator will add 624 trains during the 10 day period. This includes 518 high speed trains, 78 intercity trains with Guangzhou, and 28 regular trains running between cities in Guangdong and those in Hunan and Guangxi.
