AFTER walking-assist exoskeleton “π” went viral at Mount Tai in eastern China’s Shandong Province during Spring Festival, the Shenzhen-made product debuted at the Shenzhen Safari Park in Nanshan District over the weekend.

The device, developed by Shenzhen-based tech startup Kenqing Technology, is available for use at the park. Visitors can try on the 1.8-kilogram, lightweight, lower-limb exoskeleton to assist with their tour.

Integrating core technologies such as ergonomics, power systems, electronics, and AI smart learning algorithms, the device senses lower limb movement and provides timely assistance. This effectively reduces leg strain and offers exercise protection for a more balanced cardiovascular workout.

It can be equipped in less than a minute by simply strapping the device around the waist and connecting it to both thighs with carbon fiber leg rods.

After wearing the exoskeleton, visitors feel no additional weight and find walking much easier — especially when covering long distances or climbing slopes.

The assistance provided by the robotic exoskeleton makes walking feel effortless, as if gliding through the air. Many visitors have commented that the device reduces leg fatigue, allowing them to tour the zoo more comfortably.

Yu Yunbo, founder and CEO of Kenqing, explained that lab data show that the device can reduce mountain climbers’ oxygen consumption by 30%, significantly lessening fatigue during tours.

According to Yu, the company expects to achieve a monthly production output of 2,000 to 3,000 units before the May Day holiday.

Visitors can take Metro Line 7 to Xili Lake Station, Exit B, to reach the park.
