Shenzhen will share with the global community its proactive measures for, and achievements in, climate change mitigation at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which opened in Baku, Azerbaijan, yesterday.

More than 50,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries are gathering in Baku for two weeks of essential discussions and negotiations to tackle the climate crisis at the conference, which will run through Nov. 22.

A Shenzhen delegation of government agencies and companies will present what the city has done to address global climate challenges and promote its green and low-carbon products and services at the China Pavilion on Nov. 21.

The Shenzhen Virtual Power Plant Management Center will highlight Shenzhen's experience in building a new-type energy system, and the Shenzhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau will share outcomes of Shenzhen's international cooperation in mangrove protection.

A group of Shenzhen companies will promote their products and services, including Digital Sustainable Transport (DST), Shenzhen Lions King Environmental Group Co. Ltd., Shenzhen Water and Environment Group, Shenzhen Hynovation Technologies Co. Ltd., PowerChina Eco-environmental Group Co. Ltd., and Shenzhen Energy Group.

These firms will showcase their expertise in pure electric logistics vehicles, urban kitchen waste resource utilization, efficient nitrogen and phosphorus removal from domestic wastewater, self-developed hydrogen fuel cell systems, biomass gasification, and offshore wind power industry chains.

Among the key priorities of COP29 are securing a new goal on climate finance, ensuring every country has the means to take much stronger climate action, slashing greenhouse gas emissions, and building resilient communities.

A major focus will be on the next round of national climate plans, which are currently being developed by countries ahead of next year's deadline. Special attention will given to making these strategies bolder, fully implementable, and investable, ensuring they are economy-wide, prioritizing the transition away from fossil fuels, and aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

U.N. Climate Change Conferences, known as COPs, take place every year and serve as the world's only multilateral decision-making forum on climate change, bringing together almost every country on Earth. The U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change is a landmark international treaty agreed to in 1992, and it is the parent treaty to the 2015 Paris Agreement.
