The Shenzhen Children's Hospital Longhua Campus, which is twice as large as the hospital's Futian campus, officially opened Thursday.
As the largest medical facility providing comprehensive pediatric care in Shenzhen, the Longhua campus is poised to handle up to 10,000 outpatient visits per day, addressing the pressing need for high-quality pediatric medical services in the city and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Situated at the bustling intersection of Minzhi Boulevard and Minkang Road in Longhua District, the state-of-the-art facility spans a total floor space of approximately 310,000 square meters and features 1,500 beds.
The project, which represents an investment of 2.68 billion yuan (US$376 million), includes a 16-story building complex and three underground parking lots with 1,500 spaces, ensuring convenience for patients and their families. A direct connection to the Minzhi Station of Metro Line 5 via the basement further enhances accessibility.
"The opening of the Longhua campus marks a milestone in the development history of Shenzhen Children's Hospital," said Ma Xiaopeng, the hospital's president. "With the new campus operational, we are entering a development phase of 'one hospital, two campuses.'"
On its opening day, the campus also held a free medical consultation activity where 14 experts provided free consultations for children.
The activity attracted a great number of residents, including one surnamed Zhang and her 2-year-old daughter. "I had been waiting for its opening for a long time. With this new option, it will save us a lot of time and trouble when seeking medical treatment," said Zhang, a Longhua resident.
The expanded capacity of the new campus is expected to significantly alleviate the challenges faced by pediatric patients in Shenzhen, including difficulties in registration and long waiting times for elective surgeries.
During the campus' initial trial operation, the medical facility opens 16 outpatient clinics, with 20-25 doctors available for consultations daily.
Ma assured the public that despite the campus being a new medical facility, the diagnosis and treatment services are consistent and integrated with those in the Futian campus.
"In the early stage of trial operation, we will deploy senior, technically skilled, and experienced experts to the new campus, with most experts alternating between the two campuses," he said.
