The Wanqingsha branch line of the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway will open to traffic next month, linking Guangzhou's Nansha District to the Shenzhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link, according to the Nansha District Government on Friday.
It will take less than 20 minutes for vehicles to travel from the Nansha Port to the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport via the Shenzhong Link and less than 15 minutes to reach Zhongshan, hometown of famous revolutionist Sun Yat-sen, via the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, Liu Wei, Party chief of Nansha District, said during an inspection of the project last week.
The project will provide strong support and huge opportunities for Nansha to participate in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and help Nansha improve its level of opening up to the outside world, he said.
Meanwhile, work on the Nanshan Comprehensive Hub, which will cover a total floor area of 120,000 square meters, will begin soon. Upon opening in 2028, the hub will become one of the largest transportation hubs in the GBA.
Centered around Nansha, within a one-hour drive, the hub will be able to reach and serve 80 million people, connecting with more than 800,000 businesses.
The 32.4-kilometer Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, which connects Nansha, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, and Shenzhen, opened to traffic in April. The Shenzhong Link, which runs across the Pearl River Estuary, opened in June this year, further promoting the integrated development of the GBA.
