Shenzhen's container throughput, an important indicator for international trade and economic activity, topped 20.25 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from January to August this year, an increase of 16.33% year on year, according to Shenzhen Customs.
Exports of new energy vehicles (NEVs) have significantly grown. In the first seven months of this year, the value of Shenzhen's NEV exports soared to 15.15 billion yuan (US$2.14 billion), a year-on-year increase of 50.8%.
Cross-border e-commerce has been instrumental in reinforcing Shenzhen's status as an important container hub. During the first half of this year, the export volume of cross-border e-commerce goods has outpaced traditional trade, with notable growth in the shipment of bulky items like furniture and outdoor gear.
In July, container throughput at Yantian Port, one of the world's largest container ports, exceeded 1.47 million TEUs, setting a new single-month record.
