Four students from Shenzhen achieved a historic milestone at the 47th WorldSkills Competition, which concluded in Lyon, France, on Sunday, by securing three gold medals and one silver medal, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.
Chen Jun'an, from the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, won a gold medal in the Optoelectronic Technology category.
Students from the Shenzhen Institute of Technology performed exceptionally well. Zhuo Jiapeng won a gold medal in the newly introduced Industrial Design Technology category, Huang Jiajie bagged a gold in the Cloud Computing category, and Zhang Zihong secured a silver in the Graphic Design category.
Known as the "Skills Olympics," the WorldSkills Competition is the world's premier event for vocational skills, showcasing advanced professional expertise across various fields. It is held every two years.
Since 2015, Shenzhen has participated in the WorldSkills Competition five times and won five gold, three silver, and two bronze medals as well as three excellence awards. In the 2022 WorldSkills Competition, Luo Kai and Chen Xinyuan, from the Shenzhen Institute of Technology, won China's first gold medals in 3D Digital Game Art and Cloud Computing, respectively. Those gold medals were also Shenzhen's first at the event.
This year's event included 1,400 contestants from nearly 70 countries and regions who participated in 59 events. China's 68 contestants participated in all 59 events, and they won 36 gold medals, nine silver medals, four bronze medals, and eight excellence awards. This strong showing ranked the country first in gold medals, total medals, and total team score.
