The first Animation-Comic-Game (ACG) Greater Bay Area (GBA) is set to kick off Sept. 15 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District, according to a press conference yesterday.
The three-day event marks the first time for ACG Hong Kong, one of the organizers of the ACG GBA, to enter Shenzhen's manga and gaming market in its 25-year history.
"This exhibition will have a distinct Hong Kong flavor. While Shenzhen has hosted numerous comic conventions and competition is fierce, we want to introduce the Hong Kong model to see if it offers any surprises," said C.P. Leung, chief executive of ACG Hong Kong, during an interview before the press briefing.
"We'll feature Hong Kong-based brands, along with the city's largest distributor and biggest licensing agency. Hong Kong comic artists will also be present to engage with fans. Additionally, toy designers from 10 countries and renowned cosplayers from around the world will join us. We'll also have top voice actors interacting with visitors," Leung said.
Adran Chong, founder and CEO of Soap Studio, revealed that Hong Kong brands will be showcasing their exhibits, including robotics, designer toys, figurines, and model cars.
"Hong Kong's strength comes from our frequent exchanges with international industries, which allows us to leverage their development experience. At the same time, we benefit from the mainland's robust production capabilities. By combining these advantages, we're poised to find the best path for our growth," Chong said.
The first ACG Hong Kong was held in 1999. The event plays a significant role in connecting fans, creators, and industry professionals within the ACG community. It often collaborates with other organizations and events to enhance the cultural and commercial impact of the ACG sector in Hong Kong and beyond.
