The Shenzhen-produced dance drama "Wing Chun" has arrived in London, with the team preparing for their premiere at Sadler's Wells Theatre on Friday. Between now and Sept. 7, the show's nearly 80 performers will stage 12 shows.
The journey of "Wing Chun" to London is the second time the show has been staged abroad, with the first destination being Singapore in September last year.
"I hope the audience in the U.K. will enjoy 'Wing Chun,' a dance drama that combines martial arts and dance," Wang Yuanlin, a dancer from the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater, said during an interview Wednesday.
Wang said that the drama's narrative is structured around two parallel yet interwoven storylines, which is conducive to cross-cultural communication. She believes that overseas audiences, through the language of dance, can experience the profound spirit of Chinese martial arts and the richness of Chinese traditional culture.
Feng Haoran, another dancer, hopes that "Wing Chun" will successfully promote traditional Chinese culture to the world.
The Sadler's Wells Theatre is located in London's West End. With a rich history of over 300 years, Sadler's Wells Theatre is one of the world's leading dance institutions.
"Wing Chun" made its national debut in China in December 2022 and has been staged in dozens of major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Tianjin. With nearly 200 performances both at home and abroad, the show has received critical acclaim.
