Three international technological innovation institutes in the Shenzhen Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone officially opened Thursday, the first anniversary of the release of a development plan for the park by the State Council.

Guangdong Vice Governor Wang Xi and Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong attended the opening ceremony.

The institutes will focus on life and health, and artificial intelligence.

The China Resources Life & Health Institute, also known as China Resources-Southern University of Science and Technology Life & Health Institute, aims to establish a national-level research platform focused on organoids and organ chips.

The International Headquarters of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area National Center for Technological Innovation will focus on connecting international innovative resources with leading enterprises to facilitate technological breakthroughs and support the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.

The center is based on the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen, according to Liu Renchen, executive vice president of the institute. According to Liu, the center will prioritize research in biological medicine and high-performance materials.

The Associated Lab, led by the International Digital Economy Academy, will focus on embodied AI and general visual perception, driving research and the application of large models within this field.

During the ceremony, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area National Center for Technological Innovation signed an agreement with the China Resources Life & Health Institute to establish a research platform focused on severe diseases, the development of innovative drugs, and precision clinical medicine.

Since the release of the development plan for the Shenzhen Park last year, there has been notable progress in scientific innovation in the park.

So far, the park has attracted more than 160 high-end scientific research projects and over 15,000 scientific researchers.
