Location
Pingshan is located at a strategic location among the city group on the eastern coast of the Pearl River mouth. It neighbors Huizhou City, links the city group on the eastern coast of the Pearl River mouth and Hong Kong, and serves as Shenzhen's gateway to Fujian Province in eastern China.
History
Pingshan District was originally composed of Pingshan and Kengzi townships belonging to Longgang District. On June 30, 2009, Pingshan was set up as the second functional zone that is directly managed by the Shenzhen Municipal Government. On Jan. 1, 2017 Pingshan became an adiministrative district of Shenzhen officially.
Role
Pingshan is designated to become a "model for scientific growth, pilot area for comprehensive reforms, new growth pole of Shenzhen" by the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It will provide strategic support for the growth of Shenzhen in the next three decades. The district is developing toward the goals of "modren industrial park and low-carbon ecological city" and continuing the legend of Shenzhen.
Growth
During the 13th Five-Year Plan, Pingshan is to build itself into a northeastern gateway of Shenzhen and a garden city with intelligent manufacturing. From 2016-2020, the GDP of the district will reach more than 104 billion yuan, basically doubling the 2015’s figure.
Industries
Pingshan is dedicated to become a major base for advanced manufacturing, high-tech and high-end service sectors in Shenzhen, with special emphasis on biochemical, new energy, new materials, new-generation electronic information technologies, and creative culture.

The total area of Pingshan District is 168 sqkm.
