Shenzhen, renowned for its commitment to sustainable transportation, has experienced a significant boost in new energy vehicle (NEV) charging during the first quarter (Q1) of this year.

According to the latest report from the Southern Power Grid Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau, NEV charging volume increased to 670 million kilowatt-hours, marking a notable year-on-year increase of 10.9%. The increase is equivalent to fully charging over 12 million NEVs with a battery capacity of 50 kilowatt-hours.

The report underscores the positive trajectory of Shenzhen's NEV market and robust use of its charging infrastructure, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

At present, the city boasts 336 operational supercharging stations that are strategically positioned in urban areas. The power supply bureau has implemented various measures to seamlessly integrate these stations into the grid and prevent interruptions to power distribution in the city.

Shang Longlong, manager of grid planning at the bureau, acknowledged the challenges posed by the escalating demand for high-power supercharging stations.

Measures have been taken to match power demands with grid capacity and maintain an equilibrium between charging loads and grid capabilities, according to Shang.
