Shenzhen Soil and Water Conservation Science and Technology Demonstration Park, also known as Shenzhen Water Conservation Park, is located in Xili Subdistrict in Nanshan District, near the southwest side of Xili Reservoir. As per the municipal government, the Shenzhen Municipal Water Authority and the People's Government of Nanshan District started the park's construction in 2008. The park officially opened in October 2009, making it the first urban soil and water conservation technology demonstration park in China.
The park focuses on depicting the efforts of soil and water conservation in Shenzhen since the 1990s, and it serves as an important base and window to promote the construction of the city's ecological civilization and water education.
1. Soil and Water Culture Exhibition Area
Four theme parks are constructed by drawing on the four elements of nature, namely soil, wood, gold, and water to present the soil and water culture with unique landscape simulation design techniques.
2. Display Area of Soil and Water Conservation Science Popularization
(1) Display area of soil and water erosion simulation facilities
The area utilizes steep groove facilities, with artificial rainfall simulation, to demonstrate the process of water and soil erosion, giving visitors a visual understanding of water and soil conservation efforts.
(2) Display area of plant root boxes
Transparent plant root boxes are used to display the root morphology and growth of different vegetation types.
(3) Display area of soil and water conservation engineering measures
The slope and ditch protection projects are set in the display area, presenting traditional soil and water conservation measures and modern urban soil and water conservation measures.
(4) Runoff test area
A total of eight standard runoff plots with a slope of 22.5 degrees are set up in the area, and five types of land types, including bare ground and natural grassland, are built as well.
3. Demonstration and Education Base of Sponge City Science and Technology
The area, built with entrance plazas, rain gardens, terraced classrooms, soil and water conservation botanical gardens, and other facilities, introduces and displays soil and water conservation principles, as well as its scientific and technological innovations and applications. It also helps improve public participation in water conservation publicity and offers a platform for the construction of the city's urban soil and water conservation and ecological civilization.
