Samara, formerly known as Kujbyshev during the Soviet era, is located in the southeastern part of the European part of Russia along the middle Volga River. It has an area of 53,600 square kilometers and an average annual temperature of 3.8°C. Shenzhen formed a sister city relationship with the Samara region Dec. 19, 2008.
