Batam, part of Indonesia's Riau Islands Province, has a land area of 1,040 square kilometers, with a total area of 2,950 square kilometers including its surrounding islands. Shenzhen signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Batam on Dec. 18, 2006, to enhance exchanges and cooperation.
