With Shenzhen’s tourism market rebounding during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the city became the fifth top traveler’s destination and second top tourist source region during the three-day holiday which started Friday, according to data released by Fliggy Travel yesterday.
Bookings for high-end hotels and bed and breakfasts in Shenzhen increased by 80% and 60%, respectively, compared with those during the May Day holiday.
The city’s top scenic spots include Happy Valley, Shenzhen Safari Park, Window of the World, Evergreen Resort and Splendid China-China Folk Culture Villages, among others.
Parks across Shenzhen received over 1.57 million tourists during the holiday, according to information released by the Shenzhen Municipal Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau.
Shenzhen Bay Park received the most guests with 255,000 visitors, followed by Dasha River Ecological Corridor with 115,000 and Dameisha Coastal Park with 112,000.
The statistics released by the Shenzhen Municipal Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau on Sunday showed that Shenzhen received 2.5 million tourists in total, with tourism revenue of 1.413 billion yuan (US$212 million), during the holiday.
The total tourist number at major attractions reached 495,200, growing 120.68% year on year and generating 35.64 million yuan in revenue, up by 155.34% year on year.
Among the hotspots, a total of 143,100 people visited OCT Harbour while the Huaqiangbei pedestrian street received 75,100 visitors. The number of visitors to Happy Valley and Window of the World were 62,000 and 39,800, respectively.
The bureau said that Shenzhen’s tourism market during the holiday generally maintained a safe and orderly operation, with no serious tourism-related accidents or COVID-19 cases reported.
In addition, Shenzhen transport terminals handled a total of 1.28 million passenger trips, or 429,500 trips on daily average, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, up by 68% year on year, and 23.6% over the May Day holiday.
Among them, railways handled 1.04 million trips, up by 118% year on year. The airport recorded 179,200 trips, down by 22.15%, data from the Shenzhen transport bureau showed.
