The cargo throughput at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport reached 169,300 tons in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, up by 10.3% year on year. The value of its cargo trade reached 70.6 billion yuan (US$10.79 billion), up by 37.93%.
The trade hit a new record both in quantity and value, data from Shenzhen Customs showed.
In the first half of April, international cargo flights increased by 20%, with cargo throughput reaching 46,000 tons or 70% more year on year. In April, the airport opened three new international cargo routes, including routes to New York City in the U.S. and Leipzig in Germany.
The routes’ opening has increased cargo destinations from Shenzhen to five cities in North America and eight cities in Europe. The flights departing from Shenzhen increased to 40 flights a week, helping enterprises in Shenzhen and other Pearl River Delta cities expand their global markets, and ensuring supply chain stability.
