The Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission has approved the investment and construction of an international agricultural product innovation center in the core area of Shenzhen’s international food valley in Dapeng New Area, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Saturday.
The innovation center is planned to cover an area of 33,200 square meters, with a 42,000-square-meter construction area. The city’s agricultural technology promotion center, a subsidiary of the municipal market regulator, will be in charge of the innovation center’s construction.
It is reported that the project will team up with institutions such as the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen to build an agriculture innovation center with global influence.
The project will focus on three industrial links of food consumption, circulation and production and strive to build six research centers on food safety, nutrition and health, green preservation, agricultural product quality big data, intelligent food processing and high-quality breeding.
Three public platforms for agricultural product achievement incubation, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area food reference technical support and expert consultation platform of international food policy think tank, will be established.
The project also aims to serve 10 key industries such as traditional agricultural products, raw food materials, modern food equipment manufacturing, modern seed industry, new resources and marine food, smart food supply chain, and food quality and safety.
According to relevant plans, the innovation center will strive to introduce and cultivate over 50 high-level talents in the field of agricultural products within five years after its completion.
It endeavors to cultivate two to three world-class innovation teams, establish a technological innovation system with in-depth integration of industry, university and research, and offer services to at least 100 enterprises.
It is aimed at gathering high-end elements and building the scientific and intelligent core of Shenzhen’s international food valley and improving the city’s original innovation capabilities in the field of agriculture and food by 2035.
