Strategic Positioning

Guangming Science City is centered around a world-class cluster of major scientific and technological infrastructures. It focuses on applied basic research and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, with deepening reforms in the scientific and technological innovation system as a guarantee. It aims to build a comprehensive national science center core area, a world-class large-scale open innovation base, a comprehensive experimental zone for sci-tech system reform, and a source of innovation for future industrial development. By 2035, it aims to become a world-class science city with core competitiveness.

Space Layout

Guangming Science City is located in the eastern part of Guangming District, covering a total area of 99 square kilometers. With its planned area stretching from the Shenzhen-Dongguan border in the north to the Guangming District border in the east and south, it is bounded by Longda Expressway in the west. The northern part of Guangming Science City is designated as the Equipment Agglomeration Area, creating a "scientific forest" with mountains and lakes, surrounded by greenery. The central part is the Guangming Central Area, featuring the Science Park, the Guangming Urban Rural Tourism Zone, and a "Leisure Urban Area," characterized by a mix of vertical city structures. The southern part is the Industrial Transformation Area, shaped as a "Shared Smart Valley" with rich ecological connotations and a technological cultural atmosphere.

(1) Equipment Agglomeration Area

As the core area of Guangming Science City, the Equipment Agglomeration Area follows a "one main cluster and two subsidiary clusters" spatial planning layout.

A large cluster of scientific equipment covers an area of 6 square kilometers, comprising a 5-square-kilometer core unit and a 1-square-kilometer expansion unit. This area will host scarce major high-tech infrastructures like the Pengcheng Cloud Brain III with core growth functions, providing spatial support for its derivative developments. The National Supercomputing Shenzhen Center Phase II project will also be constructed to offer high-quality computing resources.

The science and education integration cluster covers an area of 4.1 square kilometers, introducing major scientific infrastructures of brain analysis and simulation and synthetic biology research, as well as the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. It will also develop research-oriented universities like Sun Yat-sen University Shenzhen Campus and Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology, fostering a blend of science and education.

The technology innovation cluster spans an area of 2.6 square kilometers, focusing on industrial innovation facilitation platforms, shared laboratories, and industrial transformation acceleration platforms to drive the integrated development of applied basic research and industrial innovation.

(2) Guangming Central Area

With a total planned area of 8.1 square kilometers, the Guangming Central Area integrates functions such as technology, commerce, government affairs, culture, and social activities. Relying on the planning and construction of the Science Park, it focuses on creating a series of comprehensive urban projects, constructing large-scale urban landmarks, and establishing a diverse and integrated international vibrant central area. The Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, one of Shenzhen's "Top 10 New Cultural Facilities" which spans an approximate land area of 66,000 square meters, is built within the Guangming Central Area. This facility serves various functions such as an innovation element aggregation center, an interactive innovation technology center, an innovation learning and research center, and an innovation academic exchange center.

Guangming Cloud Valley is an essential scientific service support area within Guangming Science City. It will be planned and constructed in harmony with the science city, comprehensively aligning with the development and spatial planning of the science city to provide scientific support facilities like conference centers, exhibition centers, schools, hospitals, and expert buildings.

(3) Industrial Transformation Area

Covering an area of 15 square kilometers, the Industrial Transformation Area will establish platforms for results transformation and industrial innovation to foster and arrange future industries. Currently, a complete liquid crystal display industry chain, led by TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology and represented by companies like Asahi Glass, Nitto Optical, and Shenzhen Laibao Hi-Tech, has been formed. With industrial parks as the carrier, the area will drive accelerated cluster development in industries like new materials, new energy, and cultural creativity.
