She is known for singing and acting in several Goro Miyazaki movies including “Tales From Earthsea” and “From Up on Poppy Hill.”

Teshima went to C&S Music Academy in Fukuoka and began a music career as an amateur in 2003. She then participated in a musical event “DIVA,” which was held in Fukuoka, as part of a Teen’s Music Festival. In March 2005, she acted in “Japan-Korea Slow Music’s World” in South Korea and her performance was favorably received by the audience. Her performance attracted the attention of anime director Miyazaki. Toshio Suzuki was also very impressed when he listened to her demo version of Bette Midler’s “The Rose.”

In 2006, she finally released a song called “Therru’s Song” which was featured in Miyazaki’s movie, “Tales From Earthsea.” She also voiced the character Theru in the movie.

She once again collaborated with Miyazaki on his second feature “From Up on Poppy Hill” (2011), singing “Summer of Goodbye,” the main theme of the movie and other songs in the film, as well as voicing the character Yuko.

In 2016, she released the first single from her 10th album “Ren’dez-vous.” The song, “Asu e no Tegami,” was used in Japanese drama “Love That Makes You Cry” and charted at top on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart.
