International Museum Day (IMD) is an international celebration held every year around May 18, coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
The event serves as a platform to raise public awareness on the role museums play on an international level.
This year, the theme is “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition,” and a string of events will be held in Shenzhen.

Free IMD souvenir cards
Visitors can claim free International Museum Day souvenir cards at three outlets run by Shenzhen Museum.

Lecture on black holes
Li Baile, an astrophysics doctoral degree holder from Vanderbilt University in the United States, will give a Chinese-language lecture on black holes. Li now works in Shenzhen Museum

Workshop
Children aged older than 6 are invited to join a workshop making a model of the Diwang Mansion. Shenzhen Museum will announce the sign-up information on its WeChat account “iszbwg” on a later date, so stay tuned.

Visiting Dapeng Fortress
Shenzhen Museum will organize a tour May 19 to Dapeng Fortress, an ancient walled village in Dapeng.
The fortress was built in 1394 to protect the area from pirates and later developed into a town. The museum will announce the sign-up information on its WeChat account “iszbwg” later.
Nanshan Museum
On May 18, visitors who join in guided tours of exhibitions in Nanshan Museum can claim free gifts. Visitors should obtain a card by showing their ID cards and after attending a guided tour, they can get a stamp. Once they collect a certain amount of stamps, they can claim the free gifts.

The guided tours will be held at 10:20 a.m., 10:50 a.m., 11:20 a.m., 2:20 p.m., 2:50 p.m., 3:20 p.m., 3:50 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 4:50 p.m. and 5:20 p.m.
The exhibitions are “Plentiful Central Plain: Henan Resplendent Antiquity,” “Ancient Nanshan,” “Modern Nanshan” and “The History of Nanshan’s Reform and Opening Up.”
