Russian pianist Irina Mejoueva will give a recital in Shekou on June 23.

The program will be Chopin’s “Nocturne in B-flat Minor, Op. 9-1,” “Fantasy-Impromptu in C-sharp Minor, Op. 66,” “Valse in D-flat Major, Op. 64-1,” “Valse in C-sharp Minor, Op. 64-2,” “Polonaise in A-flat Major, Op. 53,” Debussy’s “Preludes Book 1, No. 8, 9, 10, 12,” Liszt’s “Sonetto 47 del Petrarca, S. 161-4,” “Consolation No. 3 in D-flat Major, S. 172,” “Les Jeux d’eaux a la Villa d’Este, S. 163-4,” Scriabin’s “Two Pieces for Left Hand, Op. 9,” “Two Poemes, Op. 32,” Medtner’s “Canzona Serenata, Op. 38-6” and “Primavera, Op. 39-3.”
The Russian-born Japan-based pianist studied at Gnessin Institute of Music in Moscow and won first prize at the Eduard Flipse International Piano Competition in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, which led her to start a career as a pianist.
Since 1992, Mejoueva has been performing in European countries and has collaborated with prestigious orchestras. In 1997 she settled in Tokyo and later in Kyoto and engaged in activities in Japan and other Asian countries.
In 2001, to mark the 50th anniversary of Russian composer Nikolai Medtner’s passing, Mejoueva gave a series of recitals in Tokyo. She has also made a lot of CD recordings for Nippon Columbia/Denon and other Japanese labels. She won the 2006 Aoyama Music Award and the 27th Music Pen Club Music Award in 2015.
Currently, Mejoueva is a lecturer at the music department of the Kyoto City University of Arts.
