To mark the 60th anniversary of China’s iconic White Rabbit candies on the market, a pop-up store has been set up in Raffles City Shenzhen for shoppers to play games and purchase candies and ancillary products.
Originally produced by ABC Candy Factory of Shanghai in the 1950s and later by Shanghai Guan Sheng Yuan Food Co. Ltd. since 1997, the candy is white with a soft, chewy texture and is formed into cylinders wrapped in a waxed paper printed with a white rabbit.
The milk-flavored candies accompanied the growth of several generations in China and are now drawing renewed interest as part of a wave of Chinese home-grown brand fever. The candy is among a handful of old Chinese brands reinventing themselves with crossover and ancillary products to entice a new breed of millennial shoppers.
White Rabbit launched a perfume and body care product line infused with its signature milk candy scent in partnership with Chinese fragrance store Scent Library China this year after it collaborated with Shanghai skincare brand Maxam to produce lip balms last year.
At the Shenzhen pop-up store, shoppers can buy these skincare products, as well as candies, goody bags, pillows and folders with the White Rabbit logo.
