‘Romeo + Juliet’ (1996 film)

High-definition recordings of British, U.S., French and Russian plays and movies adapted from Western classic literature will be shown in two cinemas. Tickets can be purchased via ticketing apps or WeChat miniapps, such as Maoyan (猫眼) or Dianping (大众点评).

Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary was performed in London in 2010, marking the anniversary of the West End production of “Les Misérables.”

‘Romeo and Juliet’(2013 Broadway play)

Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad take on the title characters in a modern adaptation of the timeless classic “Romeo and Juliet.”

Shakespeare’s famous play is updated to the hip modern suburb of Verona while retaining its original dialogue. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.

‘Hamlet’ (2015 NT Live play)

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the title role in Shakespeare’s great tragedy. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralyzed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.

‘Anna Karenina’(2018 Vipro musical)

Noblewoman Anna Karenina lives with her husband and son. She encounters the dashing Count Vronsky among Moscow’s high society and their undeniable attraction for each other forever changes the landscape of her seemingly perfect world.

‘King Lear’(2018 NT Live play)

Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play. Starring Ian McKellen, “King Lear” sees two aging fathers — one a king, one his courtier — reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

‘The Audience’(2013 NT Live play)

Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth II in the Tony Award-winning production of “The Audience.” For 60 years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her 12 prime ministers in a private weekly meeting known as The Audience. No one knows what they discuss, not even their spouses.

‘The King and I’(2015 Lincoln Center play)

British teacher Anna Leonowens has arrived in Siam to instruct the royal children. But despite her sharp wit and strong will, nothing has prepared Anna for the lessons this new land has to teach her or for the powerful connection she will forge with its imperious king.

‘The Misanthrope’ (2017 Comedie-Francaise play)

In this take on Molière’s greatest classic, the characters are placed outside a mansion that is being renovated instead of the cozy setting of a salon. The set is a moving space, a metaphor for what the repertoire should be “evolving, completely of its century but nourished by previous centuries and already turning to the coming century.”

‘Red’ (2018 MGC play)

“Red” follows artist Mark Rothko, who, under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, and the threatening presence of a new generation is taking on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. The play is based on Michael Grandage’s original 2009 production which won six Tony Awards.

‘Macbeth’ (2015 film)

Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself. The movie stars Michael Fassbender in the title role and Marion Cotillard as Lady Macbeth.

‘The Madness of George III’(2018 NT Live play)

With King George III’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the crown, and expose the fine line between a king and a man. Mark Gatiss plays the title role in the drama written by Alan Bennett.

‘The Crucible’(2014 Old Vic play)

Richard Armitage stars in Arthur Miller’s classic drama brought vividly to life in this visceral new production. In a small tight-knit community, personal grievances collide with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria.
