"Temple of God", artwork of Xiong Wenyun
Chinese artist Xiong Wenyun, who is renowned for exploring color and its effects through painting, photography and multimedia works, will hold her solo exhibition at C2 in OCT-LOFT starting Saturday.
Presented by OCAT Xi’an, the exhibition titled “A Thousand Rainbows” takes a retrospective look at the artist’s case studies and is organized by Xi’an-based curator Wang Mengmeng.
Xiong, Wang, OCAT Xi’an executive director Karen Smith, Songzhuang Art Museum director Fang Lei and independent curator Lan Qingwei will give a talk Saturday afternoon before the opening of the exhibition.
Xiong paints directly upon her life experience. As a teenager she was sent to live and work in Sichuan Province where there were many Tibetan people. She has also been to Tibet seven times for “The Flowing Rainbow,” a project initiated in the 1990s. The magnificent plateau and Tibetan culture are the sources of her artistic creations.
Xiong’s rock paintings are based on her postgraduate study in Japan from 1987 to 1993.
