“New Start: The Third Shenzhen Biennale of Contemporary Art (BCA) — Concept, Form and Daily Life,” featuring 130 works of art created by 39 teams of contemporary Chinese artists, is being held at Sea World Culture and Arts Center. Entry is free.

Organized by the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Arts Circles and operated by Shenzhen Artists Association and Shenzhen Artists Association Art Planning Committee, the exhibition uses paintings, sculptures, installations and videos to explore the evolution of artistic practices in a contemporary context as contemporary art is being integrated into everyday practice.

According to the exhibition profile, “concept” and “form” are two important parts of contemporary art. Various hot topics, such as the booming of AI technologies and new materials adopted in art, are influencing how art expresses itself in form and concept. As art becomes increasingly present in daily life, the changes in its concept and form are closely related to time, social changes and cultural trends. By reviewing the concepts and forms in contemporary art and presenting such practices through the selected artworks, this exhibition reflects upon the distance between Chinese contemporary art and viewers and reconstructs new aesthetics according to the changing concepts.
The BCA is a large-scale art exhibition project initiated in 2015. Based in Shenzhen, it revolves around contemporary art in the Pearl River Delta region. The project — still in a stage of continual adjustment, change and development — tries to create a more distinctive and inclusive mechanism for exhibitions and exchanges with flexibility and openness, connect Shenzhen with the PRD, China, Asia and even the world through culture and art, and explore regional contemporary art in the global framework.
