The Shenzhen Art Museum (new venue) in Longhua District opened to the public earlier this month, becoming the first among the city's 10 new cultural landmarks in the new era to begin operation. The new art museum has 18 exhibition halls, a semi-outdoor area for sculpture exhibitions, several lecture halls, an art book reading room, an art-themed restaurant, and other multifunctional areas.


'Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles'


"Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles" showcases works by Japanese artist Shiota Chiharu, who is known for performances and installations that express the intangible: memories, anxiety, dreams, silence, and more. With iconic large-scale installations featuring extensive use of red and black threads as well as drawings, sculptures, photographs, and videos, the exhibition is a retrospection of the artist's art journey since the 1990s.

'Moment of Fantasy'


"Moment of Fantasy," an exhibition commemorating the 160th anniversary of the birth of Chinese painter Qi Baishi, displays 160 art and literary works by the revered painter on loan from the Beijing Fine Art Academy.

'Looking Back and Going Ahead'


The "Looking Back and Going Ahead" exhibition features works depicting milestones in Shenzhen's history since the reform and opening up four decades ago and the trajectory of art development in the city.

'Interwoven Scape'


The integration of art and technologies is one of the highlights of Shenzhen Art Museum, a major museum in this city known for high technologies. The "Interwoven Scape" digital art exhibition, the first exhibition in Shenzhen by OPLINEPRIZE, which recognizes outstanding contemporary digital art works, presents 17 works by 21 artists from nine countries, most of which are making their debut in China.

'Across Time and Space'


"Across Time and Space" is an exhibition with around 300 photographic works selected from Shenzhen Art Museum's collection of over 4,000 pieces. For those who are interested in learning about Shenzhen's urban, social, and cultural changes through photography, this exhibition, visualizing the process of how Shenzhen developed from a backward town to a modern metropolis, is not to be missed.

'Innovation of Impressions'


The "Innovation of Impressions" exhibition showcases 120 artworks, including 78 oil paintings, 40 photographs, and two watercolor works, most centering on scenery in Normandy, France. The exhibition, whose exhibits include authentic works by Gustave Courbet, Camille Corot, and Claude Monet, explores the relationship between art and the industrial revolution era in the 19th and 20th centuries.

'Thriving Aesthetic'


With exhibits selected from Shenzhen Art Museum's collection over the past 47 years, "Thriving Aesthetic" is a special exhibition outlining the museum’s development and achievements over the past years and the role the museum plays in the city's cultural scene.
