The 2024 Shenzhen Fisheries Expo, which will take place between May 17 and 19 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District, will be larger in scale than in previous years and include a diverse array of exhibits and international participants.

With an exhibition area of 45,000 square meters, one and a half times larger than last year, this year's expo will have 12 exhibition areas that focus on deep-sea and international cooperation, near-shore fisheries, and modern marine farming, processing, and food.

"The expo will attract 500 companies from 24 countries and regions. We have designated areas for island countries in the Pacific Ocean and countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. We have also invited traditional fishing countries like the U.S., Russia, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Malaysia, Singapore, and Samoa to participate," Chan Yaodong, deputy secretary-general of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, said during a Shenzhen Government Information Office news conference yesterday.

Shenzhen will develop the fisheries expo into a world-class flagship platform that gathers the fisheries industry chain by organizing local high-quality aquatic suppliers to expand overseas and inviting aquatic purchasers to gather in the city, according to Cheng Zhangwen, deputy director of the Shenzhen Ocean Development Bureau.

"The activities at this year's expo will be more diversified. The organizers have kept the iconic Shenzhen tuna cutting and the GBA gourmet festival while adding the fishery intangible cultural heritage display and performance and the 5th Asia International Chef Challenge to the list," said Cheng.
